I am trying to find a video card that will be suitable for my daily use. I want to install a dual monitor video card and I am not sure where to begin. There are cards (dual monitor) that cost between $50 – $300 dollars so I am not sure which should I choose. What should I look for when buying a video card?
I don’t plan to play any video games nor movies, I am using it for mainly school and office work.
Can any one of you help me with this question? I’m planning to buy the card this weekend. Please help.
agree with the first poster to a point. Most video cards (if not all of them) will do what you want, you just need to make sure the one you get has dual output.
***Also make sure you know what type of card the motherboard takes (PCI — really old, AGP (2x, 4x, or 8x) somewhat older, or PCI express newest). I am sure your motherboard has PCI slots but if you have an agp slot also, using an old technology like PCI would be nuts. IF your motherboard supports AGP, make sure you know which type (2x, 4x, or 8x) so it will work when you install it.

Honestly, if you are not planning on using it for any graphical application, pretty much any video card that supports dual monitors will work just fine.
I would choose a card strictly based on price in your situation, but at least stick with Nvidia or Ati.

There are roughly three types of video cards with two outputs.
1. two DVI output
2. one DVI & one D-sub
3. two D-sub (very rare)
If both your two monitors (will) have DVI input, I recommend two DVI output. Since you’re not gamer, I also recommend fanless video card for quiet environment.

Stuff all the technical mubo jumbo, First stick to an ATI or Nvidia chipset as they are the leading brands by far. And just about all new cards of the market are usable for 2 moniters so its up to u how much performance and how much money your will to use.
If your goin into a store just ask sumone for assitance , as they will show u what cards they have on shelf and how much they are priced, good luck

Tip of the Day: It almost doesn’t matter which one you buy as long as you only use it for work and no play. The only thing you need to make sure is that on the graphics card it is compatible with your operating system (most likely XP) AND, for you mostly, that there are two or hopefully three different ports for computer monitors. Try to get 2 VGA ports and maybe an S-Video if at all possible (PS: Extra tip for no reason – if you wanna hook up a high def TV you’ll need a cord to get to VGA)
