I have been looking to upgrade my graphics card a bit. I need something that could run something like Fallout 3 on high quality. I don’t need Crysis graphics or anything else, just Fallout 3 worthy. I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to graphics cards. So I don’t know the best for PCI. All i can find are PCI-E which I can’t use.
A regular PCI slot video card probably isn’t going to give you sufficient graphics capability – if your on-board graphics (I am assuming your motherboard has on-board graphics) are not capable of handling the games you are playing, and you do not have an AGP or PCI-E slot, then you will need to upgrade your motherboard.
Check on newegg.com or tigerdirect.com for deals on ‘bare bones’ machines that come with case/power supply/mobo – a lot of them will toss in memory, or even a starter PCI-E video card. With a hard drive and a few other accessories (possibly scavenged from your old machine) you can have a serious gaming machine, without breaking the bank.
